Adconion Folds Joost into Smartclip, Eyes US Multiscreen Market

Smartclip LogoAdconion Media Group is folding in and rebranding its Joost into Smartclip‘s multi-screen video advertising network. Joost Media was  a peer-to-peer-based premium video distribution platform originally started by Skype founders Niklas Zennstrom and Janus Friis, and was sold to Adconion in 2009. Smartclip was acquired by Adconion in November 2011 and has been retained as a separate brand.

The company has been aggressively expanding across the European market and has also operating in Latin America. In a statement Adconion said Smartclip has also been leveraging Adconion’s existing presence in Asia-Pacific to launch in the Australian market.

But there are also plans for Smartclip to make a stronger play in the US. Tyler Moebius, Adconion CEO, said: “Smartclip has partnerships with some of the largest OEM and app developers in Europe and many of these partners have asked us to extend our monetization capabilities outside of Europe.

“In leveraging Adconion’s global platform, and with the launch of smartclip in the US we are able to provide global services to content owners and app developers looking to monetize global audiences across multiple screens,” he added.
