IBM Acquires Clearleap
IBM has announced that is has acquired Clearleap, Inc., a provider of cloud based video services, to boost its cloud computing initiatives. The acquisition has been completed in order to empower users to access video from any device at any time and use it as a strategic source of data.

Facebook Rolls Out Live Streaming to All Users
Facebook has started to introduce live streaming video to all users, who will be able to use a redesigned status menu to select “live video.” This feature will be available from their flagship app and is starting with a small percentage of iPhone users in the US. As with other apps like Meerkat and Periscope, Facebook’s streams display the number of live viewers, the names of friends who are watching, and real-time comments as they’re written.

Two-Thirds of UK Feel Underrepresented by Ads
Almost two-thirds of people in the UK feel the ad industry does not represent them, and almost two-fifths say advertising characters and messages fail to reflect British society as a whole, according to research from Marketing Week. The study revealed that religion, gender identity and physical ability were the areas most commonly identified as having seen the least progress on representation over the last decade.

Vimeo Introduces Adaptive Streaming
Video-sharing website, Vimeo, has announced it has introduced adaptive streaming, which automatically delivers the highest possible resolution, up to 4K, for any video, optimised for the user’s device and bandwidth.

LTE Consumer Devices Market to Average 26 Per Cent
The global LTE consumer devices market is expected to grow at a CAGR of over 26 per cent by 2020, according to the Global LTE Consumer Devices Market Opportunities & Forecast, 2020. Rising adoption of LTE technology in emerging economies, increasing number of new LTE enabled registered devices, plus declining global average selling prices of LTE devices should drive growth.

OTT To Be a Christmas Hit, But with Disloyal Users
This Christmas 52 per cent of viewers around the world are planning to use an online TV service during the festive season, but 45 per cent of subscribers are planning to cancel their subscriptions immediately or within six months, new research commissioned by Paywizard has revealed. Operators like Amazon Prime, Hulu and Netflix are set to lose many of their festive gains.

With the news that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is set to review the way in which broadcasters and distributors negotiate with each other, American network CBS has said it will defend its right to block access to certain areas of its online streaming.

Video and Audio Traffic Accounts for Over 70 Per Cent NA Traffic
Over 70 per cent of North American downstream traffic comes from video and audio, Sandvine’s December 2015 Global Internet Phenomena report has shown. Sandvine have confirmed that five years ago, video and audio accounted for less than 35% of peak period traffic. The report also found that Netflix is still dominating the market, although its rivals are catching up.

TV Will Experience Slow Growth for Two Years
TV advertising will grow by a much slower rate in the next two years, as digital media pushes marketers to shift budgets away from TV channels, according to to Pivotal Research Group.

Remote Broadband Speeds will be Boosted by Satellite Dishes
The UK’s Department of Culture, Media and Sport has announced that homes and businesses in some of the most remote areas of the UK are to be offered a subsidised satellite broadband connection if they are currently unable to obtain an affordable broadband service of at least 2 Mbps. This will come into effect as of December 2015, as part of the Government’s commitment to making sure every home and business in the UK can access speeds of at least 2 Mbps by the end of 2015.

DISH Network Loses Subscribers in Q3
The DISH Network has reported a decline in pay-TV subscribers by approximately 23,000 in the third quarter, as it releases its Q3 results. The company closed the third quarter with 13.909 million Pay-TV subscribers, compared to 14.041 million Pay-TV subscribers at the end of third quarter 2014.

Music video platform, Vevo, has announced that it has acquired streaming video company Showyou. Showyou was first launched in 2011 with a focus on creating applications for mobile, TV and the web that made content discovery, curation and consumption more intuitive.

One-In Four Spanish Homes Have Pay-TV
Pay-TV growth is being driven by convergent packages and better infrastructure in Spain, as nearly 25 per cent of the country receive pay-TV services, according to the latest report from the Spanish regulator, CNMC.
